︎︎︎About

Jeremy Knowles (he/him) is a British artist whose work delves into various aspects of life in European cities through photography, sound, and walking. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Photography from the University of the Arts London, mentored by Duncan Wooldridge and Mervyn Arthur. Currently, he is pursuing a Master's degree in Raumstrategien (Spatial Strategies) at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee under the guidance of Pauline Doutreluingne, Nasan Tur, and Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung.

Jeremy frequently showcases his work across Germany and Europe, and has also exhibited in China, Russia, and the USA. He is a member of BBK Berlin (the Professional Artist's Association) and joined the Lichtenberg Cultural Advisory Committee in 2024.

In 2015, while studying in London, Jeremy exhibited his project Rip Off at the Today Museum in Beijing. In 2018, he was shortlisted for the BLOOOM Award in Germany and exhibited 8am Walks at Hoxton Arches in London. The following year, he participated in the In-Between residency at Green Hill Gallery in Berlin and was shortlisted for the Signature Art Prize in London. His 8am Walks installation was also featured at the Affordable Art Fair in London in 2019. Jeremy engaged in two collaborative projects in 2020: Neukölln Stories in Berlin and RAUM SPACE Festival in Kaliningrad. That year, he won the ReA! Art Prize in Milan, was shortlisted for the Verzasca Foto Awards in Switzerland, and published 8am Walks in FRESH EYES - New European Photography, later exhibiting it at Photo Kyiv. In 2021, Jeremy facilitated workshops for 48 Stunden Neukölln in Berlin and held his first solo show, YOU ARE HERE, at DISKURS Gallery. In 2022, he received a research stipend from Stiftung Kunstfonds and Neustart Kultur for his project Dark Sky City. He also created the VR experience Bats in the Belfry for 48 Stunden Neukölln and led workshops at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

In 2023, Jeremy was funded by DRAUSSENSTADT Call for Action to realise his soundwalk Open the Night. He exhibited his sound installation Im Tierpark Belauscht at Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa in Berlin and presented his audio essay The Multi-Energy Garden at Casa Zemstvei in Chișinău, Moldova. His essays Violent (De)Lights and Unwanted Guests were published in the books Re:Imagine Your City by Shift Books and Outline by Kunsthochschule Weißensee, respectively. In 2024, his essay The Moth in Me (and in Steve) was published in Neuwerk Magazine by Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle. Also this year, Jeremy was awarded the DAAD STIBET Abschluss Stipendium and his project AND LET NO ONE BE FORGOTTEN! received funding from Bezirkskulturfonds (BKF) Lichtenberg.
